The people’s way to make a telecommunication was growing since the ancient age until today. The word ‘telecommunication’ itself contains of two words, ‘tele’ and ‘communication’. ‘Tele’ means far (long distance) and ‘communication’ means being understand each other. So, telecommunication is the people’s effort to be understand each other although they are separated by the long distance. For that, we have the telecommunication technology.
In the past, we might ever hear that people did the telecommunication using smoke. Some people make a fire in certain point (usually in the high land), so it produce smokes. Then, they form the smokes in a specified shape to send a message. Meanwhile, in another place, people saw the smokes and understood the code. Then, the message was received.
Many years later, the telecommunication technology was growing and people wrote in a letter or book to spread their message. And then, by the invention of the press machine and the other technologies, we started the mass production age. In 1960, Marshall McLuhan – the professor of media theory – prominence that television will be the daily consumption. Since his show in television, his prediction becames true, even until today when we entered the electronic era to spreading message. Now, we may use internet, computer, and other sophisticated gadgets to get the message. However, in some class of people, television still take a main role in their daily needs of information.
