Installing Simatic Softwares in Windows 7 via Windows XP Mode (Part 1) – An Introduction

I’ve tried to install Step7 V5.4 on my Windows 7, but it failed. Then Siemens released Step 7 V5.5 which is supports Windows 7. That answered consumers who using Windows 7 and want to work with it. But many Simatic softwares are not compatible with Windows 7.  So, when you use many softwares for work it’s impossible to install Step 7 in this Windows 7 PC then install WinCC or Simotion Scout, Microwin in another Windows XP PC. Partial migration are not good, little bit funny.

But don’t worry. Microsoft already equipped Windows 7 with Windows XP Mode  and Windows Virtual PC. They make all Windows XP application possible to run in Windows 7. Thats means all Simatic software can also work in “Windows 7”.

Based on my experience, in my work. My company wants to upgrade HMI but  only the PC, and still want to use very-very old Simatic system. The PC come with Windows 7 OEM. I asked to help desk people to help me replace with Windows XP. But some reason it can’t be realized. Then I must find another way, trying Virtual Environment. And then all works perfectly.

I made this writing into some part. I hope this can help you.
