The beauty of the night sky keeps some mystery which is still become secrets in our life. Then, Beatrice Tinsley was one of genius scientist who contribute her life to explore the cosmology and astrophysics fields. Her contribution gives us the fundamental understanding about galaxies, universe, and its behave.
Beatrice Tinsley was born in England, than move to New Zealand, married Brian Tinsley (her classmate in university), and work in Dalas (U. S.). Beatrice Tinsley was a pioneer as a woman scientist in cosmology and astrophysics, since this field was a man-dominated-field in her era. However, this domination didn’t make her afraid. It was proven with her awards and the world’s honor for her until today. She received American Astronomical Socitety’s Annie J. Cannon Award in Astronomy (1974). This award was a confession for her work in galaxy evolution. Her exploration about this topic was stated as “outstanding research and promise for future research by a postdoctoral woman researcher”.
Today, we can meet many things use Beatrice’s Tinsley name to honor her contribution in astronomy, such as Betarice M. Tinsley Prize by American scientific society which honors a woman scientist, main-belt asteroid 3087 Beatrice Tinsley, Mountain Beatrice in New Zealand, and many more.
