Almost all people in the world know piano (music instrument). But did they know Bartolomeo Cristofori? I’m sure, most of them didn’t know him yet. It is a little bit strange because Cristofori contributed an amazing invention for piano, he improved piano to the pianoforte. What was that?
If you ever tried to press piano’s keys, you will noticed that the harder you press the keys then the loader sound will produced (forte). Meanwhile, if you press the keys softly, then the softer sound will produced (piano). This forte and piano sounds are able to produced as the application of hammer system in piano. As hammer in the carpenter’s world, the harder we swing the hammer then the louder sound we will produced. Application of hammer system in piano is invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori.
Google wants to educate us about anything via Google’s Doodle, including about Bartolomeo Cristofori and his hammer system for pianoforte. When we click play button in this doodle, we will see the piano player is playing “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” (a song by Johann Sebastian Bach). Along the song playing, this doodle shows us the hammer system as a main attention in the central of the doodle. Beside that, there is a slider with ‘p’ and ‘f’ label in the right side. ‘p’ is for ‘piano’ and ‘f’ is for ‘forte’. When we slide this slider upper (get near to forte), the louder sound is produced. Uniquely, not only the sound being louder, the piano player also playing more spirited to shows us if he press the keys harder. Then the hammer hit the instrument harder too.
